On October 14, Google made Gemini 4 Argon available to developers and businesses through its API and Cloud platform. This is Google's most capable model to date: it scored 77.9% on a hard software engineering benchmark, and can generate up to one million tokens in a single response — enough to process a long contract or a full codebase at once. The model has been in restricted testing since September 30; from yesterday, it is open to anyone with a paid Google account.
The price is what matters most for builders right now. Gemini 4 Argon costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens — tokens are the small text chunks an AI reads and writes. That is an introductory rate. Prices double after November 30 to $4 in and $20 out. Seven weeks is a short window to test a model, run it on real workloads, and decide if it fits.
Early partners report gains on exactly the tasks where AI has been weakest: long, multi-step work. Harvey, a legal AI company, saw meaningful improvement on M&A and data privacy reviews. ServiceNow reported about 20% better task completion in HR and customer service agents. These are results from Google's early-access partners, not independent tests — but the direction is consistent: the model handles complex, sustained work better than its predecessors.
One limit to know: Google built in safety measures that block offensive security tasks, like writing exploit code. Teams running legitimate security tests need to apply for access via Google's Fairwind Program. For everyone else — product teams, developers, legal and finance teams — the model works today. Test it on your hardest task before November 30. If it handles the work well, that is worth knowing before the price goes up.
